Combination Feelings

I think we each experience a combination of emotions daily. Sometimes that combination is difficult to explain. These combinations can be fear and guilt, shame and anger or sadness and loneliness.
One of the most experience combinations I believe is joy and sad. However, my combination is joy and fear. I experienced this feeling when I first went back to school. I came to this country summer of 2006 and January 2007, I found myself sitting in a classroom. As I sat there, I felt so joyful that I finally get a chance to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree. But as I smile to myself a fear came over me. There were so many negative thoughts came rushing in my mind. This was mainly because I was approximately twice the age of the students there was in my class. I did not saw a student that was close to my age. However, as the term progress, I felt a little comfortable and more confident in my class assignment.

  1. It is great to hear that you chose to continue your education because many people in your situation would have quit. Since you understood your emotions through those times in class, I am sure it helped you better understand yourself. Ultimately, helping to keep you motivated. I can tell you have worked very hard and remember:
It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop - Confucius

  2. Hello Mark, I came back to college but after almost 10 years after having my daughter. I remember being one if not the only person that was older in the class. fear was definitely an emotion that I felt, however as time went on i was able fit right in and learn with the youngest of them...Never the less congratulations on hanging in there it does get easier as time goes on. After reading your blog i felt joy, because you gained confidence and sadness, because of how uncomfortable you were in the beginning.

  3. Hello Mark,
I know your feeling, I'm still attending school and I do get nervous. I know that you may feel that your the only one in your class of that age but you are a strong person. You shouldn't let that get in the way of achieving your goals, it's never to late or to early for accomplishing your goals. So congratulations and please do continue,we can all learn from each other experience.
